St. Conaires, Carrigerry, Newmarket on Fergus, Co Clare. V95P803

Sunday 9am

The Church in Carigerry is dedicated to St Conaire. Conaire, a nun from West Cork, came to visit her cousin Senan at his monastery on Scattery Island. She was not alloed ashore as Senan would not have his sacred isle tainted by a female presence. Forced to come ashore in the Carrigerry area, Conaire was welcomed by the natives, and was subsequently recoginided as patron of the parish and its church.
