It is a beautiful expression of love and faith when people have their dear departed loved ones, whose memory they carry in their hearts, remembered at the altar during the celebration of Mass. The Mass is the highest form of prayer and us with Christ’s love made visible on the cross. Due to the decline in the number of priests and the consequent reduction in the number of Masses celebrated in our churches it has become common for a single Mass to be offered for two or more deceased persons or intentions. While donations for the celebration of Mass are voluntary, a great many people and families choose to make an offering to the priest who celebrates the Mass, which is greatly appreciated. When several intentions are included in a single celebration of Mass, the priest retains only one offering and the others are given to the parish or to another charity.
