Up to 50 women working at needlework in the Dispensary. This was an effort by the O’Brien ladies of Dromoland, Charlotte and her daughter Grace to create gainful employment for the local women and so relieve family poverty. White material was embroidered with white stitching (sprigging). The enterprise petered out mainly because many of the women involved emigrated at the first opportunity.
