Volunteer in the Community

South Clare Meals on Wheels is a service that delivers meals to people in their home who are unable prepare their own meals. These meals are delivered daily in the areas of Newmarket on Fergus, Sixmilebridge, Clarecastle, Quin, Kilmurry, Bunratty and Kilkishen Village. Volunteer assistants are being sought for the Meals on Wheels service in these areas. Volunteers will always complete their deliveries in pairs. Volunteers will be asked to:

  • help carry the food from the collection point to the vehicle
  • help carry the food into the homes of the elderly people in the area
  • spend a few minutes chatting with the people on the delivery route
  • accompany the driver as they return containers to the collection point

We also now require drivers for the service who would take turns driving on a rota basis and also fill in for the regular drivers from time to time. Available volunteering times are Monday to Friday between 10.30 and 1pm. Volunteers will be contributing to a valuable community service which benefits the lives of older people in the community.
