Work is currently underway in tidying up the grounds at Our Lady of the Wells church. Over recent years the greenery was becoming an obstruction at the side entrances so it was felt that the best possible outcome was to remove the existing shrubs and replace them with more manageable ones. In the process the church roof, grounds and the railings in front will also be given a facelift. Over the coming weeks we also hope to undertake a redecoration of the church’s interior. We are planning to have it repainted, replace the carpet in the sanctuary, clean the main church carpet, replace the storage heaters, do some electrical modifications and attend to the window frames that have deteriorated over the years.
We are in the happy position to have benefited from the estate of the Late Mary Hickey, Clonmoney West. Mary passed away in 2013 and in her will she bequeathed a substantial sum to be used for the equal benefit of the Wells Church and Clonmoney National School. Mary, of course, was a very well known and treasured member of the local community. She and her husband Sean taught for many years in Clonmoney and greatly influenced the lives of hundreds of young people in that locality. As we embark on the work of the next few weeks in the Wells we remember Mary and Sean in our prayers thanking God for the example of their living and their generosity of spirit which allows us now to create better conditions for the education of our children in Clonmoney school and enhance our sense of the sacred as we gather to worship each week in Church. We expect that the monies designated for the Wells Church in Mary’s will should go a long way towards meeting the cost of the refurbishment at this time. Any donations towards the cost of this work would be deeply appreciated. Contact the Parish Office at 19 Goodwood Estate, Newmarket on Fergus or call 061 – 368127.
