Pope Francis has chosen Ireland to host the 9th World Meeting of Families from August 22nd – 26th 2018 with the theme “The Gospel of the Family: Joy for the World” This is expected to attract thousands of Catholic families from around the globe to Ireland. It is hoped that this very special pastoral initiative will present us in the Church with the opportunity, and the challenge, to renew, support and strengthen Irish families in their commitment to their faith.
Hosting a global event of this size requires a huge amount of planning and financial outlay on behalf of the host country. Accordingly, our bishops have now established a National Finance Committee to provide advise on the financial planning for the World Meeting of Families in Ireland. To support the hosting of the event it is intended to host three national church collections, the first of which will take place in our parish on the weekend of 11th/ 12th June after each Mass. The remaining collections will take place in 2017 and 2018.
